Look, any malintentioned scum sucking malcontent who wants to write code to suck up your bandwidth and steal private data is going to test his miserable software against the big three: Norton, McAfee and Trend. Don’t buy `em. I went with Trend `cuz me employer (a big bank) loves the big three. I’ve lost count of how many virii my other software has axed that Trend had never noticed.
Don’t be a moron. Don’t use the same out of the box protection that the masses use. Think for a moment (no matter how much it hurts). If some loser is writing some nasty bit of code, is hge going to test it against the big three? Or just hope and pray? Doesn’t bother me none if your computer gets compromised, so go for it. The more dolts that buy the big three mean hackers are less likely to pay attention to real protection. Maybe you should buy a box of condoms from the Deep Discount Rack while you are at it.

Installed TM Security Pro 2009 on my new Toshiba running Vista. The program would not connect to the Trend Micro web site to Activate or Update. Contacted tech support but the techs did not seem to know what to do. Tried several suggestions but nothing worked. Finally they gave me an upgrade from the web site to Pro 2010. Same results except the program licked up my email. Uninstalled the program and instantly the email was back. At this point, I’m throwing Trend Micro in the trach and looking for another program.

I had enough of this Anti Virus I got for my dad, 2 spyware in a row. I last weekend and again this Christmas weekend. Got rid of Mircosoft, installed Fedora, yes it is a bit more complicated to get the printer working but now I am free of all the Antivirus software that doesn’t WORK and free of Microsoft! The PC is running a lot faster and Fedora and do whatever Windows did! and it is FREE!

This software is horrible; NOW I HAD the Trend Micro Basic for 2009 and my CPU ran ok with it; I have a Toshiba Satellite Dual Core w/Windows Vista. So I was very content; so content that I obtained Trend Micro for 2010 but the Pro version instead….OMG, when I say it made my computer slow; I mean; it was so bad that I didn’t even want to get on the internet. I then of course went online and woe and behold; Trend Micro was ranked around #1 & #2 for using up resources. I was so upset; I have now wasted money. But FORTUNATELY, Viper has an OUTSTANDING Antivirus which is ranked in #1 for using the less resourses; they are even ranked #1 for their antivirus software. If you don’t believe me, go this website (they even have charts that compare Vipre to Kaspersky, Panda, BitDefender, ESET Nod32, Norton, PCTools, WebRoot, McAfee)…[...]
Just an example: Percent of Memory used w/Realtime Protection: VIPRE 0.5% / Trend Micro – a whopping 6%!!!
btw: Trend Mircro refused to particpate for 2010 in 3rd party testing to see if their software “does” what they “say” it will do.

I started with Trend Micro when it was still the horribly named PC-cillin and have upgraded it three times (note that I paid for the product the first two times and the last two times received comped review copies). In between times two and three, my employer required me to install Norton on my computer in order to interface it with the company dial in. While the Norton was slightly faster than both my version of Trend Micro that came before it and the one that came after, Norton was never as good in my opinion. Trend Micro found more viruses and spyware and had an easier user interface. It’s one problem was that it was always very slow.
I am happy to report that this version seems to do just as good a job identifying viruses and spyware as previous versions of Trend Micro, but it loads and runs much more quickly. I also like the feature that Trend has added to the last few versions of this software which is to identify on web search result pages whether or not the sites that come up are safe — the software shows safe search results in green, questionable sites with a question mark, and unsafe sites with a red “X”. We have an older version of Trend Micro at work that doesn’t have this feature, so I feel much safer surfing the net at home.
Since this is an upgrade for me rather than a completely new installation, I can’t speak to how easy it is to install and configure these days. It was a little bit hard to configure the software back when I first got the program some six years ago, but once I got it up and running the way I wanted, I’ve never had to do much of anything to change it and I suspect they’ve improved the initial set-up as so many other things in the program have improved over the years.
Other people can probably give you a more geek-specific review, but in the six years in which I’ve been running Trend Micro on my computers in one version or another, I’ve never had a virus that made it onto my system or that Trend Micro has missed and any other scan has caught (and I periodically run a scan with other software just to be safe). When I replaced Norton with my third version of Trend Micro, it caught some nasty spyware that Norton had missed. I will happily exchange a few seconds of connection time for good security and I’m not even sure I’m losing much time anymore. I am a very satisfied Trend Micro customer.
