Nice that it comes on a USB to support NetBooks, but still this version is not much of an improvement from last year. There are problems with this product–as it is not as effective as others in it’s antivirus protection (viruses and malware attacks.) The only features that were improved were the parental controls, user interface, and it is easy to install. Which is not enough for me to consider this product. Trend Micro needs to improve this product more before I would consider this my only PC security.

I’m generally a Mac user but purchased a netbook for traveling. Since there is no CD/DVD slot, software must be added by downloading from the internet or using a USB drive.
Installation was very simple. My three-month trial subscription to McAfee was about to expire, and Trend removed it easily. The software downloaded quickly as did the updates. A very fast scan of my system showed 11 possible threats and those instances of spyware were stopped. None of those threats had been recognized by McAfee.
The program works on my Windows 7 computer, although it is not listed in the description.
The license is good for three computers on a home network system. Seems like a pretty good deal.

Let me say this is one cool product. A USB install. Very cool. No need for a disc and having to think about not touching or scratching the disc. You just pop this USB into a port on your computer (here a laptop running Windows XP, Professinal SP2), and it will install and then look to download updates since it was manufactured.
UNDERSTAND if you already have antivirus software running on your computer you MUST, MUST TOTALLY remove it FULLY before installing this or else you WILL have a a major problem. It might not happen right away but I can guarantee down the line you will. Now as far as other spyware programs not working with it I’ve not found any, but there is a list at the trend micro site that you need to look at. NOW going back to TOTALLY removing an antivirus software already on your computer, it’s NOT enough to just remove it from your computer, you must go to the site of the maker of your software and look to download a removal tool, then run it. ONLY this will fully remove what you had. I know many have this (Symantic is one where you need to download their removal tool), and most others do as well.
Going back to Trend Internet Security USB, it’s a great straightforward product.
THE only thing I question is what may happen once it’s time to renew this. I’ve heard from a few people that if you do not renew on time (exact date) that the whole product stops working. Meaning your antivirus, firewall, etc. (whatever product you have) just shuts right off until you pay or remove it. Where with other products it will stay on but will not update. NOW please keep in mind I’ve heard this from several people in the past, and I just did a quick search and found people posting issues like this. So if you renew on time or delete beforehand it will not be an issue (if this is true). I cannot say until a year from now, but time will tell.
Currently this has been working fine, no problems or lags or startup problems.

I only recently switched from using Norton / Symatec to Trend. I had previously used Norton / Symantec for over 10 years with only minor complaints. Recently though I noticed that all of the great things I once loved about Norton / Symantec were disappearing – Norton Personal Firewall 2006, Norton SystemWorks 2005 [AntiVirus, Utilities, GoBack, Check IT], Norton AntiSpam 2005 – Single User, etc. Sure these items are now all under the umbrella Norton Antivirus / Systemworks – but they do not have all of the older features that were so customizeable. And don’t even bother asking about their Mac tools – like Norton Systemworks for Mac 3.0 – these are few and far between with limited results. I finally jumped ship and went with the company that I had been using as a free crutch for nearly 10 years as well.
Trend Micro’s home page offers scans and repairs… but that only really helps after the damage is done. I discovered it about 2001 after getting a virus that my Norton failed to pick up in my email. So this year I decided to entrust Trend again by purchasing their antivirus for my PC & Mac, and so far so good. I was amazed that this is on USB, wish it was for the Trend Smart Surfing for Mac also. Trend vs Norton – so far win Trend. Trend runs smoother in the background than Norton Antivirus 2008 1 User [OLD VERSION] that I had been running. I didn’t notice as many lags in internet useage and even was doing usual work while a scan was performed not knowing that it was going the whole time. Sure I operate XP with 4GB of RAM, but previously Norton significantly slowed down my system while scanning. I am normally running mostly text heavy programs not multimedia, so this could be drastically different for gamers / video & music users.
The standout feature of it all has to be the USB. I can’t imagine now why more companies wouldn’t do this with the low cost of thumb flash style drives. I usually try to keep most program discs and over the years they get beaten up pretty bad. I would love to have some system tool programs on a USB thumb sized drive to easily run on other computers around work – just keep it in my pocket or in my lap top bag.
The USB made it nice to have a durable and quick loading install without the worries of a scratched disc. Trend has secured me for next year’s purchase already. I was not disappointed.

This is just easy to plug in and install. No more fiddling around with CD’s. In some ways this is easier to put away in a computer drawer as well and less likely for me to lose in my stack of CD’s for prorams/drivers/etc. I think The programs themselves work well and are fairly resource “lite”. I’m a careful web srfer, but it seems like Trend Micro does a good job of keeping me out of trouble and from trouble getting to me. This is especially important since portable computing means I take my laptop/mini/netbook to public places.
